IT STARTED in 1993 with sixteen kids who were living with HIV/AIDS...kids who were looking at virtually no Christmas celebration, including gifts. So we made a plan:
1) to have a great Party;
2) to give "Santa gifts" to ALL children who attend the Party;
3) to provide the parents with the means to choose a complete Christmas (new clothing, shoes, toys) for their home celebration, allowing these families to maintain their own tradition of Christmas.
Well, it worked!
And then it GREW! [at the 2009 Party, you helped us serve 502 children!]
And now, as we prepare for the EIGHTEENTH Christmas Party (12/18/2010), there are again AT LEAST 400 children waiting!
Kids in all sorts of conditions and problems...kids in working families which remain profoundly poor...kids who do not "qualify" for any other program...kids from "immigrant" families...kids from various clinics...kids everywhere in East Texas who don't have any prospects for Santa arriving...or for their parents to maintain any personal dignity in finding help.
So it's been an amazing process...churches, schools, businesses, civic groups, and LOTS of individuals from ALL OVER the country...and it's just become this glorious, breathtaking event each year. And if you would like to see pictures of the Party, simply click here!
