A Given Day...

What does O.C.W. actually DO on a day-to-day basis?

On any given day, some or all of us might likely be:

Raising funds for our Food For The Poor Alliance, thereby providing thousands of pounds of food to those who need it most, especially the children... Making calls in the year-long process of preparing the Annual Children's Christmas Party for hundreds of children... Offering guidance/counseling in person, on phone, or by email... Obtaining mental health services for a Companion... Talking with the family of an AIDS patient... Playing with the many children in our community... Officiating at or attending a funeral... Visiting a local nursing facility... Buying someone gas or a new tire so they can get to work... Uniting/Blessing a couple in their life together... Baptizing a child... Interviewing an immigrant family about their needs... Speaking to a civic or religious group about the needs of the poor in our area... Being present at the hospital while a mother delivers her baby... Replacing a toilet or a door or a roof on someone's house... Sitting with an alcoholic or drug addict who's struggling through the possibility of recovery... Putting together a newsletter... Supervising a bunch of kids at the swimming pool... Celebrating Communion... Attending someone's court trial... Convening a weekend "Gathering" in a large, suburban parish in another state... Sitting with folks as they struggle through their life experiences... Mowing lawns, trimming bushes, raking leaves... Having a big birthday party for a child (of whatever age!) who's never really had one... Sharing office duties and chores... Encouraging someone in finding a job... Taking a child to the emergency room... Preparing a Community supper... Preaching at a local church... Communicating and comparing notes with sister-communities around the country... Worrying about due bills... Begging, continually... Doing and being in the midst of a hundred other blessings of our life together.
